Shanghai Daily Secret—Baking Power

Shanghai Daily Secret—Baking Power

What’s better than the morning aroma of freshly baked bread?
We heard about an NGO that trains disadvantaged Chinese youth to become bakers and enables them to find jobs after graduation.Four years after its foundation by 12 French volunteers, Shanghai Young Bakers are offering classes to the general public as well. Enjoy a slow food day by joining their baking course (or organizing one for your company—a great team building tip). Not only will you master amazing bread and pastry-making skills, but all the fees will go towards a great non-profit training program. Send Shanghai Young Bakers an email at lin.cong@shanghaiyoungbakers.com to make an appointment.

P.S. Shanghai Young Bakers are also involved in a cooperative project with Braille Without Borders (BWB), teaching Braille and vocational skills to blind and visually impaired Tibetan children. This year SYB trained Tibetan student Basang Lamu, and the SYB team will go to Tibet this summer to help BWB develop their own bakery training.
