10th batch’s sneak peak of the 5-star hotel world!

On Monday October 16th, our 10th batch of Young Bakers caught its first glimpse of the 5-star hotel environment at The Four Seasons hotel Pudong! We are grateful for the hotel’s warm welcome and efforts in organizing a thrilling and insightful afternoon.

Upon their arrival, students gathered in a meeting room to hear Chris and Amy, the Four Season’s HR Director and Manager, present the company’s history and values. Students were very excited to learn about how hotels operate and gain a better understanding of luxury hotels’ philosophy. They listened carefully and engaged with their interlocutors, who made sure the students felt at ease.

After the presentation, students were split into two groups to tour the hotel. They peeked into the ballroom, strolled around the spa, admired the view from the pool and looked into a hotel room. Most importantly, students visited the hotels’ various kitchens. Their excitement culminated as they entered the pastry kitchen and realized they would shortly be working in similar settings. They recognized the utensils and machines they learned to use in the baking center, which they looked forward to using in a professional kitchen.

Once students finished touring the hotel, they enjoyed delicious finger food prepared by the Four Seasons hotel. Students were thrilled by the thought of soon contributing to the preparation of similar kinds of buffets.

To finish, Chef Andy, the Four Season’s Assistant Pastry chef, shared his insight about working in a kitchen with the students. This was a wonderful opportunity for students to understand what would be expected of them upon their arrival in professional kitchens.

We warmly thank Chris, Amy and Chef Andy for welcoming our students at their hotel on Monday. Students, starting their internships thereafter felt more self-confident and excited about working in this unknown environment. Our Young Bakers will undoubtedly retain found memories of this first introduction to the professional baking world and we wish them the greatest success in their internships!
