On May 11th, during Bakery China, Sinodis organized the first China Pastry Cup with Chef Gabriel Paillasson – founder of the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie (World Pastry Cup), and his team. China’s most talented pastry chefs competed against one another to qualify for the Asia Pastry Cup, which would then enable them to qualify for the World Pastry cup hosted in France.

While visiting the exhibition center in the morning, the Young Bakers were impressed by the scale of Bakery China and the variety of companies present at the fair. They paid close attention to everything they saw and heard to become increasingly familiar with the industry. During this time, they were also focused on the upcoming event, they had been preparing for over the past months. A Few months ago, Sinodis, which provides Shanghai Young Bakers with high quality ingredients for free, invited the Young Bakers to coach disabled teenagers for a pastry contest.

Before China Pastry Cup’s award ceremony, four teams of Young Bakers gathered on stage to guide Special Olympics partner schools’ students in Shanghai and Hangzhou in baking cookies and their decoration. After a two-hour competition, Chef Paillasson and his team awarded each group a prize based on their performances throughout the competition.

These awards highlighted the groups’ efforts in preparing for the competition. Sinodis offered the Young Bakers the opportunity to understand differences by coaching disabled teenagers, to develop their expertise by learning new techniques and recipes, to share a passion for pastry by being humble and demanding when visiting schools to get ready for D day.

Preparing for this event was an incredible experience for the Young Bakers as they learned about giving back to society and spreading Shanghai Young Bakers’ social Impact. As this is a pillar of our program, Shanghai Young Bakers consistently seeks to develop its social impact by helping a wider amount of people coming from diverse environments and developing specific content according to unique situations.

The Young Bakers will remember May 11th as a special day, as it asserted their affiliation with the Bakery and Pastry professional environment. SYB’s main in-kind and financial partners at the exhibition welcomed the students warmly, and Sinodis offered them a chance to demonstrate their passion for the profession.

On behalf of the Young Bakers we would like to thank Sinodis for its long-term support for our program and offering our students the opportunity to participate to such an amazing adventure!
