Jiuqian’s little musicians further their discovery of bakery
On Sunday January 12th, Jiuqian volunteer center’s migrants kids joined for the second time our fun and hands-on kids baking class. Jiuqian is a non-profit organization that uses music, and in particular singing, as a vehicle to improve the quality of life of migrant kids. For an afternoon, they replaced their music instruments by flour, butter and sugar to create new art pieces, more exactly ginger bread and pizza.
Most of them had never baked or seen an oven, so this was a real opportunity for them to discover a new skill and maybe find a new hobby. After a step by step demonstration of the recipe, the apprentice bakers started to prepare their own ginger bread dough under our baking teacher’s instruction, then they cut it carefully into the desired shapes with a lot of imagination. The second recipe was hand made pizza. They started by shaping the dough into hearts, squares or triangles, then they spread tomato sauce and finished by spreading cheese, ham and vegetables on top of the pizza. Our teachers then helped the kids to put the dough the oven, then we waited for the magical moment. A few minutes later, freshly baked good came out…
At the end of the class, each of the twenty kids took home ginger breads and pizza they heartedly made and so that to share them with their family, although they were really temptated to eat it immediately. The best memory of the day, according to me, must be the smile on Jiuqian migrants kids’ faces, amazed at the result of their hard work.

久牵小小音乐家的烘焙之旅
1月12日，星期日，来自久牵志愿者服务社的务工人员子女第二次参加了海上青焙坊有趣的儿童烘焙课。久牵是一个公益组织，旨在为来沪务工人员子女提供音乐艺术教育，以此来提高他们的生活质量。当天下午，他们以面粉、黄油和糖代替乐器，创造了新的艺术品——姜饼和匹萨。
在此之前，大多数孩子都没有烘焙的经历，甚至没有见过烤箱，因此，烘焙课对他们而言就是一个学习新技能、发展新爱好的绝佳机会。在听了关于食谱的介绍后，孩子们在海上青焙坊老师的指导下，开始准备姜饼面团。他们运用自己独特的想象力，将姜饼面团切成不同的形状。第二个食谱是手工匹萨。孩子们将面团揉成心形、正方形或是三角形，再撒上番茄酱、奶酪、火腿和蔬菜——一切就大功告成啦！接着，我们的老师帮助孩子们将面团放进烤箱，一起等待神奇的时刻的到来。几分钟后，新鲜的姜饼和匹萨就出炉了……
课程的最后，20位小朋友都将他们精心烤制的姜饼和匹萨带回家与家人分享——尽管他们都特别想立刻就尝一尝自己的手艺。而对我来说，当天最美妙的便是看到自己的工作成果时，久牵小朋友们脸上的笑容。
