French Minister for Agribusiness Visits SYB Baking Center

On May 6th, French Minister for Food Guillaume Garot made a stop on his official China tour to visit Shanghai Young Bakers. During the visit, SYB shared its training and operating experience and had a buffet lunch with the delegation. Also, SYB had invited the French Consulate General and its sponsors to attend.

Program manager Floriane presented SYB to the guests, and took this opportunity to thank all the sponsors that have contributed to the success of the program: Carrefour Foundation of course, as the main sponsor of SYB since its inception, PSA Peugeot Citroën Foundation, which funds the mobility expenses of the program, and in-kind sponsors that graciously provide SYB with free services and products, among which are Alliance Française, GrandsMoulins de Paris, Lactalis, Lesaffre and Sinodis. Floriane was also proud to welcome Accor Foundation as a new sponsor of the program. Accor Foundation will support the expenses related to SYB baking center.

Thierry Garnier, chairman and CEO of Carrefour China, said: “Carrefour is willing to take its corporate social responsibility. We hope to help underprivileged young people grow up healthily and independently by funding Shanghai Young Bakers. Meanwhile, we hope to train more excellent Chinese bakers, who will bring quality food and services to Chinese consumers.”

During the informal, homemade French-style lunch, Mr. Garot spoke with the SYB teachers – former SYB students who were later trained in France – about their challenges and dreams when passing on their newly-found love for traditional French bread and pastries in China. He encouraged them to carry on their dreams and to realize their goals, just as he said in his speech, “I would like to talk to the youth, the young trainees and future bakers, to tell them that they will become the ambassadors of the friendship between France and China, of the friendship between our two nations, because they are now going to be able to blend the best of our two cultures. Thank you, because you are building a future that we hope to be more united, more fraternal.”

Thank you to Mr. Garot and our sponsors for having honored us with their presence! It is remarkable indeed to see so many social-minded companies come together to support the young bakers!
