A little bit of jazz… and pastries!

On March 21st, SYB students headed to the Children’s Palace, arms loaded with the pastries and cakes that they had done during the week. They had been invited by Stepping Stones to provide refreshments for their fundraising concert: “A little bit of jazz”. Stepping Stones is a partner NGO of SYB and graciously provides English classes to the students.

Sponsored by Soong Ching Ling Foundation, the event featured bands and choirs such as the Shanghai Voices International Choir and the Tico Cardenas Latin Jazz Trio. No sooner had the young bakers started to unpack the pastries than clients arrived, attracted by the delicious smell of baked goods. SYB products were hugely popular that evening, and in a few hours everything was gone! This was a great opportunity for the students to practice the dialogues that Stepping Stones teachers have been teaching them.

Between two sales the students went to listen to the music, impressed by the atmosphere of the concert hall and the quality of the performers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening. As Xiao Li said “We were so busy selling that I felt a bit tired, but at the same time I felt really happy that so many people enjoyed our cakes. I spent a very good time with my friends and was excited to be able to practice my English!”

Many thanks to Stepping Stones for their precious educational support, and congratulations for organizing such as successful event!
