The long-expected intermediate bread challenge

On April 14th, Saturday, we finally welcomed the long-expected intermediate bread class. From this class, participants learned how to bake croissant, fruit danish, pain au chocolat and pain aux raisins. Though it was cold outside, all the participants arrived on time. SYB  prepared breakfast for everyone to start an energetic day.
First, for better understanding, there was a brief introduction of SYB. Our volunteer Chen was invited to act as the translator for this class. Her excellent translation was warmly appreciated by everyone.
Zhang Shuai, bakery trainer, was assisted by two SYB’s graduates.
Class began! Teacher Zhang explained and demonstrated each step in details with patience. He even used a ruler for measurement to ensure the accuracy (same size of each bread)! Participants were free to raise any questions and the whole team seemed to be  in a harmony.

Participants were organized in pairs and worked together. Their relations got enhanced through teamwork.
What a busy morning! After sending the dough to the fridge, we were ready for lunch. The SYB-made Quiche always got overwhelming like in each class!

Everyone went back to bake again after filling their stomach.
Teacher Zhang and our assistants were really happy to help whenever participants asked.
Teacher Zhang also provided a theoretical class to explain the principles behind each step. Knowing this will help a lot when you are baking at home by yourself.
After the final baking, here came the products! Participants were so excited to see their self-made breads.

The class finally came to the end. Participants improved their baking skills, harvested lots of delicious breads, reaped friendship and the most important thing is they all made a contribution to our charity program. All proceeds from our classes are used to fund SYB’s work in empowering disadvantaged youth through bakery. Thank you for spending such a nice day with SYB.If you also want to enjoy a meaningful day with us, welcome to contact us for more information of our public classes!
