The British Council visit SYB

The Scottish delegation of Social Entreprise Leaders and the British Council visit SYB

On Saturday, October 18th, the SYB team had a very special visit: a Scottish delegation of social enterprises leaders, including members from Scotland, US, Italy and South America, currently on their Korea-China study tour, stopped by Shanghai Young Bakers to further learn about the program.

In coordination with the British Council in China, the delegates stopped by SYB baking center on their second day in Shanghai, as part of their International Social Entreprise Visit Programme. Indeed, in order to help fundraise for the charity program, the SYB team has been putting great effort towards developing the commercial services while using the available resources.

On that morning, SYB bakery teacher Wang Li and four students from the current batch, woke up early to prepare and welcome the delegation members. After a presentation of the program by Floriane, the program manager of SYB for the past 2 years, the delegates had a lot of questions regarding the difficulties that we are facing and how we have managed to overcome some of them, as well as the direction we are taking now. Wang Li also took some time to share her story with the delegates, as a graduate from the the 1st batch and now working as a full-time teacher for SYB.

After the Q&A session, the delegates had a bakery lesson by Wang Li, assisted by the students, and were able to make their own pizza for lunch! The morning ended on a very touching note, as the delegates sang “happy birthday” to Agnes, who just turned 18.

It was an honor to be able to exchange with social-minded individuals with such impressive experience in the field of social enterprise in their home country. The SYB team and Young Bakers would like to thank the British Council for organizing such a meaningful event and the Scottish delegation for showing interest to SYB during their study tour!
