Parent-child Activity at Shanghai Young Bakers

On the afternoon of Sunday, May 20th, our baking center welcomed a number of big and little friends. A group of adorable children, led by their fathers and mothers, came to the baking center to participate in the Parent-child activity organized by Michelin for its employees.
The main content of this family activity was the decoration of fondant cakes. The children and the parents combined and used butter cream to wipe the surface of the chocolate cake and used fondant styling.
At the beginning of the event, our trainer Jin first demonstrated how to make chocolate cake and how to make butter cream. Families circled together to understand the related production process and listened with relish.
In the following time, our teacher Jin also showed them how to apply butter cream on the cake and how to make fondant decoration and modeling. Look, the Michelin children looked serious and focused.

While teacher Jin was presenting, our assistant teachers prepared chocolate cakes and butter cream for everyone and placed on the tables for their convenience to use.
The Michelin children and the parents happily watched teacher Jin’s demonstration and then returned to their tables starting to make the cake. Everyone followed the instructions, meticulously putting cream on the cake and overlaying the cakes. The first step of the complex cooperating process was completed!

After the first step, they needed to put colored fondant skin on the cake. As a result, the parents and the children took turns to use the rolling pin to roll the sugar skin. It is hard to underestimate the difficulty of rolling the sugar pelt because they needed to consider whether they made the right size and the right thickness while using the tips they learnt from teacher Jin! Parents and children reminded each other of the essentials of operation and strived to produce the perfect sugar skin for their group’s fondant cakes!

After covered the cakes with sugar skin, the final step was to decorate the cake! Families broadened their minds and exerted their imagination. Some people came out with ideas and others applied those ideas by making a variety of shapes of candy, beautiful flowers, legendary lively elf, and the cartoons characters. The Michelin children and the parents were laughing and joking in the mutual cooperation. Eventually their “game” has became their own exclusive fondant cake decoration!

This afternoon’s family activity brought parents and children not only to the enjoyment of completing cake decorations, but also to “harvest and meet together”!
