Julien: “The French classes at CAVILAM were really stimulating!”

On June 22nd, I arrived in Vichy to take French classes. Vichy is a very little city, there are no skyscrapers there, it’s not as busy as Shanghai. However there are many parks, the air quality is really good and everyone is very friendly! When crossing the road, car drivers stop to let pedestrians cross, they are friendly and polite! Even passersby will smile at you, say hi, they give you the feeling that you are really close! Usually in France supermarkets are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, but that’s not the case in Vichy! Here supermarkets are opened even in the week-end.

In Vichy I was living with a French family, a couple in their 60s, they were very warm and took great care of me. They were very willing to help if I encountered difficulties when studying French, and very patient as well! In their house there were two other exchange students, one girl from Turkey and one boy from Columbia. They were really nice, every day we would study together which was really interesting, I learnt a lot from them!

The French classes at CAVILAM were really stimulating, students came from all over the world and the teaching methods were great! We studied every day together, the students were very lively, the classes very interactive so there was a great atmosphere and I became integrated without knowing it!

I learnt a lot in Vichy: I got to understand the French lifestyle, the French work methods, I made friends from many different countries, I grew up as a person and my French improved for sure! I’m extremely happy I had the chance to live this experience!

Inès : « I’m very happy to have met so many people from all over the world ! »

Such a blue sky, such a pure air…my first feeling when I arrived in France is that I would like it very much here! On June 17th we arrived in Paris, and after a few days there we went to Vichy to study French. I was very lucky to live at the house of a French woman called Sylvie. She was very kind, and together we did many things: shopping, walking, taking part in all kind of celebrations…I even got to celebrate her birthday with her; I baked a big fruit cake to thank her, she was very happy!

At CAVILAM my teacher was called Fanny, she was pretty, kind and responsible. She told us : “If there is something that you don’t understand during class you have to ask me!” I had many classmates, and would have new classmates every week. I had classmates from Spain, then from Japan, Germany, South Korea…I became good friend with my Japanese classmates, we would often eat together, study together, and take part in all the free activities offered by the school (my favourite were sports, singing and dance!). Once they even organised an International show of culture and arts, some Chinese students did a really funny skit! I’m very happy to have met so many people here, who made me discover so many other cultures.

However, sometimes I also felt like being on my own, so everyday after lunch I would sit on the bridge on the river at the back of the school. Sitting there I would feel very peaceful…in front of me there would be nothing but the wide river, giving me the stillness to think of many things…
