Feb Newsletter: Adele and Max unique adventure in France sponsored by Roquette and Madaifu

Adele and Max, our next bakery and pastry teachers, started their journey in France in June 2017. During the past seven months, they explored and learnt a lot about French culture and traditions, obviously focusing on French bakery and pastry. After studying at l’EFBPA in Aurillac for six months, they will soon start their internships in Paris before returning to Shanghai in June.  Throughout their journey, the students benefited greatly from learning about both traditional and innovative techniques, and experiencing baking and pastry making from a new perspective. They are both elated to have embarked on this exhilarating adventure and are truly enjoying their stay in France.

All this would not have been possible without our partners’ support. Most of the costs are sponsored by two partners: Roquette and Les Enfants de Madaifu (Children of Madaifu).

Roquette is a family-owned Group serving customers globally, Roquette is a leader in specialty food ingredients and pharmaceutical excipients. The products and solutions developed by the Group deliver proven technological, nutritional and health benefits precisely tailored to the pharmaceutical, nutrition, food and selected industry markets. Since its foundation – over 80 years ago – the Group’s growth has been based on innovation, a passion for the job and a commitment to achieve. Roquette operates in more than 100 countries and currently employs over 8,300 people worldwide.

One of Roquette’s goals is to develop activities with local communities in order to contribute to their development through sustainable relationships. By partnering with SYB, to help sponsor our two teachers’ training in France, they contribute to SYB’s sustainable model: former SYB students will become future beneficiaries’ trainers. Roquette sponsored Adele and Max tuition fees as well as accommodation and meals at EFBPA from August 2017 to March 2018.

Founded in 1999, Children of Madaifu is a French-registered non-for-profit organization. For the past 10 years, the associations’ mission has been to alleviate hardship for orphans in China’s most deprived regions. Madaifu aims to keep these children within an extended family environment by finding foster-carers (grand-parents, uncle…), and giving them an allowance to meet their living and tuition expenses. Maidaiful helps these children on a material, financial and educational level.

Children of Madaifu and SYB have maintained a long term partnership. Every year, SYB selects many of Madaifu’s children to follow its training, Max being one of them. Because they care for the students they help, Children of Madaifu follows them even after graduation.

Children of Madaifu volunteers welcomed Adele and Max upon their arrival in Paris last June and helped during their first steps in France. They also found a place for them stay while interning in Paris. In addition to the time spend helping and finding accommodation, Maidaifu also sponsors most of Max’s living costs in France such as flight tickets, phone, host family in Vichy, uniforms, books…

We are really glad to have such thoughtful sponsors helping us to be more sustainable and contributing to ensuring that these young teachers receive the best quality training in France.

On the behalf of the Young Bakers, their teachers and the SYB team, I would like to thank Roquette and Madaifu for their support. Together we will be able to provide high quality training to more disadvantaged youth.
